I know many of you folks reading my content don’t have access to a garden but still have a passion for gardening.

This article is for all of you who still want to grow something despite having limited space. Trust me, this kind of passion inspires me a lot.

I can relate because if my mom hadn’t had a huge garden, I would have been in the same situation

Here are 9 superb herbs that can be grown easily in mason jars:

Basil can easily be grown in mason jars as long as the soil is loose and well-draining or in water. If you have limited use for basil and only need it for an upcoming event or two, this can be a great way to reduce any chances of waste. This herb is fast-growing and perfect for fresh pesto and salads.

Mint in jar

Like basil, mint grows super fast and thrives in consistently moist soil. The only thing to keep in mind with this one is to provide it with adequate sunlight which is essential for its growth.

Mint can spread rather quickly so trimming is less of an option and more of a requirement. If you can’t make the time for regular trims, keep the mint separate to prevent spreading

Potted parsley

Out of all the herbs out there, I’d say parsley is the least pungent and strong, at least for me. I haven’t grown a lot of parsley in my backyard garden due to this exact reason; other herbs like oregano or rosemary just seem to be a better bang for the buck personally.

Anyhow, parsley is super easy to grow in mason jars and will provide fresh garnish all year round as long as it’s maintained properly and given lots of moisture.

fresh chives

If you’ve ever tried chives, you’ll know they have this mild onion-like flavor that’s not only incredibly delicious but also quite appealing when paired with the crunchy texture. Chives are super low maintenance and can be grown easily in slightly larger than usual mason jars.

In my opinion, there’s no better and more popular garnish than cilantro, especially for Mexican and Asian dishes. If you live in a slightly cooler region or have winter time right now, cilantro is the perfect herb to grow in mason jars.

I prefer growing cilantro in smaller spaces right before Thanksgiving as I prefer garnishing my Thanksgiving dishes with this magical herb.

Oregano is known for being a part of Italian cooking and, to be fair, it fits extremely well in that cuisine. This delightful, savory herb can be grown in mason jars if you’re tight on space and is relatively hardy compared to some of the other more delicate herbs on this list.

Rosemary is perhaps one of the strongest, most potent herbs out there. You add even a little bit of rosemary to a dish, the whole thing becomes fragrant and delicious. Many of you might not know this but rosemary is also an effective natural mosquito and insect deterrent

If you’re growing this one in a mason jar, ensure sufficiently dry conditions and good drainage.

Thyme is a small but mighty herb that is capable of adding tons of depth and flavor to many dishes. Because it doesn’t grow too tall or have a spreading habit, thyme can be grown in mason jars without an issue

Dill is most popular for pickling purposes. In fact, the first time I learned about dill as a young boy was through dill pickles. This tangy green herb brings an element of freshness and earthiness to savory dishes and brines, adding to that mouthwatering effect.
