People today are so obsessed with the latest technology and Amazon gift cards that a simple gift of something like plants are considered small or “strange”.
But, let’s not make that the norm; plants and flowers as Christmas gifts should be the norm.
Thankfully, this is actually a normal thing in my family. I love giving plants as Christmas gifts to those who share the same love for plants as I do! And… I also love receiving them, which gave me the idea to write this article.
So, here are my top plants that I love to either give or receive during Christmas time!
9 Best Plants For Christmas Gifts
Let me remind you that holidays aren’t about spending thousands of dollars, but spreading love and making memories. And trust me, every time my aunties, sisters or neighbors look at the plants I gave me, it reminds them of me.
Here are 9 best plants that can make for the perfect Christmas gift.
9 – Christmas Cactus
A Christmas cactus is not only the perfect Christmas gift because it has Christmas in its name but also because it blooms beautiful maroon, pink, and orange flowers.
This plant is well known for its ability to thrive in dark environments and attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds during the day.
8 – Poinsettias
Poinsettias are believed to be a symbol of Christmas! Their bright red blooms and lush foliage scream the spirit of Christmas and community.
If you gift a pot of poinsettias to a loved one on the occasion of Christmas, it is guaranteed to brighten up their life for days to come.
7 – Orchids
If you happen to be looking for a plant to gift to someone who’s lazy and wouldn’t be putting in much effort to maintain it, orchids are the perfect choice.
They have beautiful and elegant blooms, longer blooming periods, and are generally on the more resilient end of the spectrum compared to other delicate plants.
Orchids are also pet-friendly and non-toxic. If any of your loved ones have pets, this is a great option!
6 – Kalanchoe
Kalanchoes are very underrated plants that can bring up the aura of any place/room in no time. They can be the perfect Christmas gift for someone who’s boring by nature and has very dull and muted colors in their house.
Kalanchoes add that vibrant pop of color that is often missing in people’s monotonous and bland field of view.
5 – Paperwhites
Paperwhites are the simplest and most elegant gift for making anybody’s Christmas. They’re extremely fragrant, bloom around winter time, and are quite easy to care for, meaning no burden on the recipient.
4 – Cyclamen
Cyclamens are truly a fine work of God. When they bloom, they really bloom; I mean you can see their flowers glistening from afar!
While Cyclamens are a stunning Christmas gift, be careful if the person you’re giving this plant is a pet owner because these plants can be toxic to animals.
3 – Christmas Rose
Another potential Christmas gift that has Christmas in its name. The Christmas rose is a solid choice as a Christmas gift because it is usually blooming around wintertime (which is when Christmas comes around).
It produces stunning flowers in a variety of eye-catching colors like white, baby pink, and even blue. Frankly speaking, you can’t really go wrong with Christmas roses; they’re guaranteed to melt hearts.
2 – African Violets
African violets can bless humans with their beauty all year round if cared for appropriately.
If you have someone in your life to whom you’d like to say “I love you” all year round, consider gifting them an African violet pot for Christmas.
They’ll be mesmerized by its ravishing beauty and the plant will remain with them as a symbol of your loyalty. Yes, African violets actually symbolize loyalty in many cultures.
1 – Spider Plant
A spider plant can be a simple but thoughtful Christmas gift for a strong person in your life who’s still standing after facing harsh episodes and unfavorable times.
It is a resilient plant meaning it can tolerate low-light environments, irregular watering, high humidity, and everything that any other plant typically won’t tolerate.
Final Words
It’s time we finally break the pattern of typical “new generation Christmas gifts” and start exchanging something meaningful like plants.
They provide us with real oxygen and beauty that actually serves a purpose. Even though you might seem like the odd one gifting people flowers on Christmas, I promise you everyone will love you for it!
